CPA publishes monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports for members of the association on the production and shipment activity of wood-based composite panel producers. Several of the annual reports are available for purchase by non-members.
In addition to collecting data on production and shipment activity, CPA collects data on the number and type of safety incidents recorded at each facility on a monthly basis. This information is vital to safety, human resource and mill managers as it gives them a quick synopsis of the number and type of safety incidents that other facilities across North America are experiencing. By evaluating the different types of incidents, these managers are better able to develop more specific safety training exercises and documentation.
Based on the industry production and safety data CPA collects each month, a series of monthly and annual statistical reports are published. The documents are available both in hardcopy and digital formats, with the latter easily accessed at any time on this website. The following provides a short review of each of the statistical documents published by CPA. If you would like information on becoming a member of the Composite Panel Association, click here.
CPA STATISTICAL REPORTS
Members may login here to view any of the following reports.
Safety Report (Members Only) A monthly publication reporting monthly and year-to-date incidence rates by plant. OSHA considers an incident (i.e. an injury or illness) to be work-related if an event or exposure in the work environment either caused or contributed to the resulting condition or significantly aggravated a pre-existing injury or illness. The plants included in the Safety Report are listed in order of increasing year-to-date incidence rates. This report is published electronically only.
Industry Snapshot (Members Only) A monthly publication showing the performance of the North American composite panel industry for the current month as well as previous months. The Snapshot report includes data on the quantity shipped, monthly capacity, capacity utilization rate, and comparison of year-to-date shipments over an eight year period for particleboard, medium density fiberboard, and hardboard. Additionally, the Snapshot provides graphs on the monthly quantity of thin (i.e., less than 5/16") particleboard and MDF produced in North America. The Industry Snapshot is published by the middle of each month. This report is published electronically only.
Market Barometer (Members Only) Similar to the Industry Snapshot, the Market Barometer report provides information on the performance of the North American composite panel industry. However, the Barometer is different from the Snapshot in that data are displayed by North American region, which allows more industry specific information to be obtained. Additionally, the Barometer reports shipments and inventory levels as a function of adjusted monthly capacity. This allows the reader to evaluate how each region is performing relative to its potential, or capacity. The Market Barometer is published simultaneously with the Industry Snapshot and is also an electronic publication only.
Shipments Reports (Members Only) A series of 26 different shipments reports published by the end of each month detailing the performance of the industry during the previous month. The reports include information on the aggregate quantity of particleboard, MDF, and hardboard produced by CPA members on a monthly and year-to-date basis. The current YTD shipments are listed along with previous YTD shipments to show how the industry is performing relative to past years. Additionally, the shipments reports show extrapolated or industry-wide shipments on a current, YTD, and historical basis. The shipments reports are published in both thousand square feet and thousand cubic meters (3/4" basis) measurement units. All of these reports are published on an electronic basis.
Annual Shipments Report (Purchase Electronic Version) This annual report provides a detailed summary of composite panel shipments by North American producers by product category (e.g., industrial and flooring), thickness (19 categories ranging between ≤ 0.1250" and > 1.5"), and region (USA, Canada, and Mexico). The industrial shipments are then separated into multiple value-added categories. Similar to the monthly shipments reports, the data are presented in both thousand square feet and thousand cubic meters (3/4" basis) measurement units.
In addition to reporting data on the quantity of shipments by thickness, the annual shipments data are summarized by the formaldehyde emission characteristics of those shipments. Specifically, the total quantity shipped by region that is ≤ 0.20 PPM or ≥ 0.30 PPM (at the 0.13 ft2/ft3 loading ratio). Finally, the Annual Shipments Report provides an historical summary of the aggregate quantity of particleboard, MDF, and hardboard shipped by year since 1969 and the dollar value of those shipments.
This report is published in an electronic format. As the information contained in this report is of such value, CPA makes this report available to non-members for $1,000 per copy.
The North American Capacity Report provides detailed information on all wood-based, nonstructural composite panel producing facilities in North America. The Report summarizes the annual production capacity of particleboard, MDF and hardboard plants in North America, as reported by producers. Capacity is defined as the maximum amount of product a plant could produce in a given year, as opposed to the amount of product a plant could ship, if operated under optimal conditions. The Annual Capacity Report also provides a listing of plants scheduled to expand, new facilities slated to open within or be constructed, and plants that have been closed but are intact or capable of being restarted.
This report is offered in an electronic format and is available to non-members for $300 per copy.
Annual Decorative Surfaces Report (Purchase Print Version)
This report provides detailed information on the North American decorative surfaces industry, from current total production to historical comparisons. The data are separated into the following four categories: Vinyl Films, Low Basis Weight Papers, Decorative Foils, and Saturated Papers. Each of these categories is then separated into one or more subcategories and analyzed in greater detail. The Report is replete with graphs, year over year comparisons, and discussion of the results. The Decorative Surfaces Report is published within the first half of each year.
This report is offered in both a print and electronic format and is available to non-members at $500 per copy.
